The Wales Darby Mobile Learning Center is all geared up and hitting the road for Live-Fire A. O. Smith Training with the ProLine XE® Voltex® AL Smart Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater! Take a look at the video of our Contractor Services Group Manager, John Resso as he takes you through a virtual training session on the new high-performance, high-efficiency unit.
The TACO Comfort Solutions Live-fire Mobile Cart, jointly developed by Wales Darby's Contractor Services Group Manager, Rick Koester, and VP of HVAC Department, Steve Poli, is now ready to hit the road just in time for the upcoming heating season. This mobile training facility serves as a hands-on educational platform for ECM technology, which is set to become the industry standard according to the Department of Energy (DoE) by 2025. The cart showcases a range of hydronic accessories offered by TACO, presenting a comprehensive solution package for contractors. Its portability allows it to be easily transported via van to various Distributor Counter Days and events, where Wales Darby trainers and Sales teams can provide valuable training sessions.
Among the featured items on the cart are the 007e, 015e, and 018e ECM Circulators, VT2218 Delta-T Heat Pump, Zone Sentry Valves, Magnet Filtration, 4900-Series Air Separator, Hydro-separator, Switching Relays (SR), Zone-valve Controller (ZVC), and 5000-Series Mixing Valve, all provided by TACO Comfort Solutions. Additional products from the Wales Darby linecard, including Spacepak Thin Wall, Flexcon's Expansion Tank, and Electro Industries' Mini-Boiler, are also incorporated to simulate a home heating setup. Notably, the use of the In-line Balancing Valve is a key highlight of the showcase, allowing users to simulate room dimensions and the required linear feet of baseboard for heating. Combined with the TACO 018e Circulator Pump, featuring Bluetooth technology, users can adjust the resistance on the balancing valve and observe the reaction via an app displayed on a mounted tablet, gaining a better understanding of how this equipment can work together efficiently for optimal home heating.
In Long Island's West Islip Beach Street Middle School, the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE VU-V system was successfully installed under the guidance of HVAC Department Director Chris Crean from Wales Darby. This modern VRF technology replaced inefficient window shakers, providing a more energy-efficient and flexible solution for this commercial application. The installation was carried out by Commercial Instrumentation Services (CIS) from Deer Park, NY, while Sid Harvey's Medford Branch, represented by store manager Chris Kelley, served as the Distributor. A total of 8 Fujitsu VRF systems, including 6 VU-V systems and 1 JIII system, were installed, utilizing over 40 indoor evaporators to complete the project.
CIS is set to continue this successful installation at the 2nd West Islip Udall Road Middle School starting in early August.
Wales Darby recently concluded the highly successful "RIELLO Run" Product Roadshow. The two-week mobile product showcase, in collaboration with RIELLO North America, embarked on a journey across New York and New Jersey. Led by North East Regional Sales Manager Larry Whalen, the team traveled in a van specially outfitted with a range of products for demonstration.
The primary objective of the RIELLO Run was to engage with Engineering and Architecture firms, initiating conversations on commercial heating and cooling system solutions. The showcase highlighted the seamless integration of components into existing or retrofit systems, emphasizing the features, benefits, and maintenance aspects of the products.
Among the standout offerings was the RIELLO Boiler Array V2.5, a pre-packaged boiler plant that sets a new industry standard for efficiency, redundancy, and reliability. This cutting-edge solution garnered significant attention and appreciation from the attendees. Additionally, the showcase featured high-efficiency electric boilers from Electro Industries, venting systems from Centrotherm, and pump systems from Taco Comfort Solutions. These high-efficiency products showcased the potential for integration within commercial buildings, allowing for comprehensive system optimization and electrification solutions.
During the roadshow, Larry Whalen and the Wales Darby commercial/engineering team actively engaged with the attendees. They answered questions, facilitated Q&A sessions, and provided detailed explanations of the products on display. To further enhance the experience, breakfast or lunch was served, and a few giveaways were distributed. Literature highlighting the showcased products was also made available, ensuring that engineers and architects could take valuable information back to their workplaces. It is hoped that this knowledge will contribute to the Spec Bid process for new building projects or retrofit solutions.
The RIELLO Run Product Roadshow proved to be an informative and successful endeavor. With over 20 locations visited within the two-week span, Wales Darby and RIELLO North America effectively disseminated crucial information and fostered meaningful conversations with industry professionals. This collaborative effort has undoubtedly created new opportunities and strengthened Wales Darby's position as a leading provider of HVAC, Hydronics, and Plumbing equipment.

Fujitsu General America hosted its annual Technical Service Advisors (TSA) Conference at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Wales Darby Contractor Services Group Managers Rick Koester and John Resso along with fellow TSA’s from distributors such as Ferguson, Johnstone and Sid Harvey’s found it extremely productive to attend.
Themed “Unified in 2023,” the event strengthened manufacturer-distributor relationships, and empowered in-field technical support to pass on their knowledge to contractors. In this way, the TSA Conference acted as both a team building event and a service training event to help to deliver the highest-level of support to our contractors.
The three-day event featured motivational speeches, networking events, hands-on troubleshooting and breakout sessions covering everything from commercial and residential training to warranty processing, parts and marketing. The speeches from the Wounded Warriors Foundation and Ben Poole of HVAC Tactical™️ stressed the importance of unification of contractors and trainers, explaining how important this bond has become to the industry. Further relationship strengthening happened during the networking events where TSA’s from different regions connected to discuss key issues in order to come up with solutions that will be taken home and implemented. “Contractors call and rely on us to solve difficult situations which can sometimes slow things down. We want to help pass the torch and empower them with the knowledge and technical resource tools provided by Fujitsu to solve issues as they come up in the field. We’re here to make a significant impact and priority #1 is helping our contractors be as successful as possible” said Rick Koester, Contractor Services Group Manager, Wales Darby.

B&F Johnstone Supply hosted their airline-themed Spring Trade Show after an entire 3-year hiatus, and it did not disappoint. Held at the 1960’s retro-styled TWA Hotel, our distributor gave each Contractor their “passport” ticket and it was their duty to visit every rep to get a stamp in their passport. Wales Darby and other representatives from major air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigeration manufacturers were able to meet and greet with customers to discuss equipment, upcoming jobs, special offerings, challenging applications and more. In addition, B&F Johnstone Supply kept it fun with giveaways, speeches, good food, and even an encounter with former NFL quarterback, football analyst, and WFAN morning host, Boomer Esiason!
Wales Darby displayed the split terminal heat pumps (STHP) and Multi-Position Air Handler (AMUG) from Fujitsu, along with Hybrid Water Heater Heat Pumps from A.O. Smith, and Pre-insulated Refrigeration Linesets with Mini-split Accessories from HMAX. Contractors were especially interested in our High-velocity, Air-to-Water Heat Pumps from Spacepak after we took them out to see the “Connie” Airplane Bar. This plane has been fully heated and cooled for years thanks to Wales Darby and the four LAHP48 Solstice Extreme Air-to-Water Heat Pumps by Spacepak. The former airplane-turned-bar was a highlight of the show and spurred many healthy conversations about Wales Darby products and services for future jobs.
