First Co Fresh-Pak HP: Through-the-Wall Vertical Heat Pump with Integrated ERV for Multifamily Applications
The First Co Fresh-Pak HP is a through-the-wall, vertically packaged heat pump with integral Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) engineered specifically for space-constrained multifamily, student housing, senior living or hospitality projects.
It consolidates zone-level heating/cooling and balanced ventilation into a single factory-assembled system.
Available Capacities & Electrical Configuration
The Fresh-Pak is available in:
- 12,000 / 18,000 / 24,000 / 30,000 BTU/h nominal cooling capacities
- 208/230V, 1-phase power
- Electric heat options from 3kW to 10kW (10kW models require dual circuits)
Units under 10kW operate on a single electrical circuit, while 10kW configurations separate compressor and electric heat circuits, simplifying branch panel coordination in stacked multifamily applications.
Refrigerant & Low-Ambient Operation
The Fresh-Pak series uses R-454B refrigerant and incorporates:
- Factory-installed A2L mitigation (≥18k models)
- Integrated defrost controls
- Compressor operation down to 5°F outdoor DB
Airflow & Static Capability
The unit is designed for maximum 0.5 in. w.c. external static pressure.
Factory default airflow taps are optimized for heat pump vs. electric heat operation, with ECM motors standard on indoor and outdoor fans.
For example, the EPE30210 delivers up to:
- ~1,014 CFM at 0.1” w.c. (T5 cooling tap)
Blower performance data is published across 0.10–0.50 in. w.c. for proper duct design coordination.
Integrated ERV – Controls & BACnet Capability
The ERV section includes:
- Independent supply & exhaust ECM fans
- 0–10V fan control outputs
- Outside air damper control
- Rapid ventilation (boost mode) input
The ERV controller supports BACnet integration and configurable A/B alarm classes, making it suitable for multifamily projects requiring centralized monitoring.
ERV airflow performance is published up to 1.0 in. w.c., with balanced supply/exhaust airflow values provided for coordination.
Installation Configuration
The unit is certified for:
- Indoor, through-the-wall vertical installation only
- Closet installation with top discharge ducting
- Wall sleeve integration with architectural grille
Minimum clearances and wall sleeve rough-in dimensions are defined (43-1/2” H x 26-3/4” W opening).
Application Fit
Its packaged vertical configuration, integrated ERV, ECM motors, R-454B compliance, and BACnet-capable ventilation controls make it a strong solution for projects requiring distributed zone control with integrated ventilation in a compact footprint.
